Texas vs. UCLA

Texas Longhorns vs. UCLA Bruins - Austin, Texas
Game Review by Hammondeggs

Texas and UCLA has played only 4 times since both schools started their football programs. The last game ended in UCLA’s 66-3 route of Texas in Los Angeles. This was not exactly a storied rivalry but it was always an interesting game historically.
Texas opened the scoring late in the 1st quarter with a 31 yard Justin Tucker field goal. That's the way the 1st fifteen ended, Texas 3, UCLA 0.
In the second quarter, UCLA quarterback Kevin Prince threw a 1 yard TD pass to Ricky Marvay, making the score 7-3 UCLA. It was Wyoming all over again, we where getting beat in our own house bu a team we ought to have been beating handily by that point.
A Texas punt led to another UCLA field goal and after Garrett Gilbert fumbled, UCLA kicked yet another field goal. The half ended with a score of 13-3 in favor of UCLA.
The first half was depressing for  a Texas fan. The offense never really got going. Garrett Gilbert showed his inexperience at the college level, completing few passes. I doubt UT fans where worried however, Texas historically has a slow start and gets much better in the second half. Alas, this was a time that went against history.
On the first drive of the second half, UCLA’s dynamic QB/RB rushing combo took over. RB Johnathan Franklin scored on a 11 yard run. The score was 20-3 and Texas fans where getting worried. The only slight glimpse of hope came late in the third. The offense started clicking, Gilbert completed a few passes and Texas found itself at the UCLA 17 yard line. The drive however stalled and Texas was forced to kick a field goal, UCLA 20, Texas 6.
On the ensuing drive, UCLA quarterback Kevin Prince faked the hand off to the running back and sprinted 38 yards into the end zone.
With 5:05 left in the 4th quarter, Texas scored a touchdown on a 5 yard pass from Garrett Gilbert to WR James Kirkendoll. Texas went for the 2 point conversion but failed making the score 27-12, in favor of UCLA.
UCLA scored another rushing touchdown and that's the way the game ended, UCLA 34-Texas 12.

Players of the Game: (Linebacker Emmanuel and Defensive End Sam) Acho Brothers

The Acho brothers, Emmanuel and Sam, each registered a sack and a tackle-for-loss in the loss to the Bruins. The had 7 and 5 tackles respectively, 6/4 of them solo tackles. Both of the Achos are consistently hard workers on every play and deserve recognition.
Sam Acho, the older of the two can be seen to the left.
