Texas Longhorns vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders - Lubbock Texas
Game Review by Hammondeggs
If you are a University of Texas Football fan, you remember the fateful moment that Michael Crabtree sprinted into the black and red endzone with a second left in the game, dashing Texas' hopes for a national championship berth. Texas payed a visit to Lubbock last Saturday and they had a chip on their shoulder.
Texas looked unstoppable in the first half, not allowing Tech to get a first down. After a botched snap by Texas Tech recovered by Jackson Jeffcoat, Fozzy Whittaker scored on a 7 yard run. Texas forced another punt and one the next possession, thanks to some great passing by Garret Gilbert, scored a touchdown. Gilbert threw a touchdown to freshman Mike Davis. Texas forced yet another punt but on their drive, after a break down of the offensive line, a pass from Gilbert was knocked into the air and picked off by Tech defender Jarvis Phillips and ran back 88 yards for a touchdown. The score was know 14-7, still in favor of Texas. The Longhorns were forced to punt on their next drive and Red Raider quarterback Taylor Potts engineered an 88 yard drive which resulted in a touchdown pass to wide receiver Lyle Leong. Texas had gone from blowout potential to tied with Texas Tech at halftime.

With 3:30 left in the game, Texas Tech was faced with a 4th and 6. They had to go for it to have any chance at making a comeback. This was the game. Eddie Jones rushed through the Tech offensive line and caused Potts to through a bad pass. Texas took over on possession and ran the clock out.
The Longhorns had avoided another catastrophe in Lubbock.
Player of the Game: (Safety) Blake Gideon
Gideon had a lot to prove. He was, after all, the one who cost the Longhorns the game back in 2008, dropping the game sealing interception. He played extremely well, registering 6 tackles and an interception. It was evident that he had matured since he had come to Lubbock back in 2008.
